Geese Cause Traffic Problem
PRESS RELEASE – May 1st, 2024
Incident No. 24-1436
On Wednesday May 1st 2024, at approximately 1410hrs, Weatherly Police were notified of another traffic related problem in the area of Spring and East Main Street the Borough. The cause of the problem was due to several goslings with both parent geese walking through the streets in and out of traffic. Officers Eyer and Palermo responded and were met by a local resident who stopped to assist and make sure none of them were struck by passing motorists. Officer Eyer exited the patrol unit and walked with the resident and the gaggle of geese across town making sure they were safe while Officer Palermo followed in the patrol unit to slow any traffic and keep everyone out of harms way. At one point one of the goslings was tired from the long trek and was left behind by the rest of its family. Officer Eyer put on latex gloves to keep his scent off the gosling, and carried it the rest of the way to safety and released it with its family where it was successfully welcomed and back and all were safe, happy and accounted for.
The Weatherly Police Department would like the help of the public to spread the word that this is the time of year that hatchlings are taking place and there will be sightings in unexpected locations. The public is asked to not intervene or take matters into their own hands with handling wild animals. Always call the Weatherly Police Station, or the Carbon County Communications Center to report any incidents and an Officer will respond and assist. If there is ever an animal that our Officers are not equipped to handle safely and efficiently, we will contact the appropriate agency that specializes in such animal.
Any information received that was not released by the Weatherly Police Department is considered invalid and should not be deemed official.
