ANIMAL RESCUE

On Tuesday April 30, 2024, Weatherly Police were notified of a traffic related problem in the area of the sharp curve on Hudsondale Street in the Borough. The cause of the problem was due to several ducklings and the mother duck stranded in the roadway. Officer Eyer responded and located the mother duck frantically pacing around one of the storm drains and as he approached to render aid he observed 4 ducklings fall through the grate and into the drain. Officer Eyer was able to get the 2 remaining ducklings out of the street along with the mother while traffic passed. Officer Eyer then escorted the 2 ducklings and the mother across the roadway and to the safety of the stream. Officer Eyer notified Chief Markovchick that there were approximately 6 ducklings in total that fell into the drain and needed rescue. Chief Markovchick arrived and both he and Officer Eyer began to prepare and remove the drain grate to enter the drain, upon doing so Officer Eyer observed the ducklings were no longer in the drain. Officer Eyer walked the stream bank to locate the pipe exit and entered in the pipe as far as possible and ensured that all the ducklings were successfully reunited with their mother and were not injured.
The Weatherly Police Department Officers all go above and beyond to ensure the safety of all the Borough’s residents, including all animals, domesticated and wild.
