PEDESTRIAN STRUCK BY VEHICLE

On June 30th 2024 Weatherly Police were notified of a 3-year-old girl struck by a vehicle on 2nd Street in the Borough. Officer Harris and Chief Markovchick arrived on scene within a minute of dispatch time. Officer Harris began treating the child who was alert and sustained minimal injuries. Chief Markovchick processed the scene and gathered information from witnesses and the operator of the vehicle involved. It was determined that the vehicle was travelling below the posted speed limit and the child was playing with her father when she attempted to cross the street to be with her mother who was visiting neighbors. Witnesses stated attempts were made to stop the child but she had already got to the roadway and was hidden behind a parked vehicle before stepping out in the travel lane. Thankfully this incident was minor in nature as these type tend to not always have a positive outcome. It goes without saying, summer time there is a lot of activity going on around the Borough and children are out playing. Please use caution when driving and pay attention to your surroundings. This driver did everything properly and remained cooperative and, on the scene, to speak with Officers before being released. Charges will not be filed in conjunction to this incident.

Any information received that was not released by the Weatherly Police Department is considered invalid and should not be deemed official.
