FLEEING AND ELUDING

On Friday July 19th 2024 Weatherly Police made a traffic stop on a vehicle being operated by a male known to have a DUI suspended drivers license. The vehicle came to a stop and the operator identified as Michael J. ALLEN, 26 of Weatherly refused to exit the vehicle when offered a ride back to his residence. The vehicle needed to be towed from the location and once the tow company arrived, ALLEN fled in the vehicle. Officer Eyer and SGT. Bogart began pursuing ALLEN through town where ALLEN was driving erratically. ALLEN continued outside the Borough at dangerous speeds and into neighboring Beaver Meadows Borough. Due to his dangerous speeds, careless and reckless disregard to himself, the general public, and our Officers the pursuit was terminated for safety reasons. Charges were typed and approved by the Carbon County District Attorney’s Office and a warrant for the arrest of ALLEN was issued. ALLENS vehicle was found abandoned by neighboring Hazleton City Police Officers and had damage to the front bumper and drivers side wheel. ALLEN was later located and taken into custody by Weatherly Police and transported to the Carbon County Correctional Facility. ALLEN faces charges filed by Officer Eyer of 1 count – Fleeing or Attempting to elude an officer (F3), 1 count – Resisting Arrest (M2), 1 count – Obstruction of Justice (M3), 3 counts Speeding (S), 2 counts – Reckless Driving (S), 2 counts – Carless Driving (S), 2 counts – Duties at Stop Signs (S), 3 counts – Failure to Keep Right (S), 3 counts Turning Movements and Required Signals (S), 1 count – Driving While Suspended (S), and 1 count – Driving without a License.

Any information received that was not released by the Weatherly Police Department is considered invalid and should not be deemed official. All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
